Caitlyn Eve’s distinct taste for the emulsion of folk, rock and indie all in the space of a 3-4 minute song is showcased once again by the release of her latest single, ‘Runaway’. Her potential for writing immersive and memorable songs has already been exhibited on her previous releases; especially in her debut spotify single, ‘Scarlet’, which built a lush and dreamlike sonic atmosphere to fit an emotionally raw love song. Now, with her new release ‘Runaway’, Caitlyn invites us into an imaginative lyrical space within the musical realms of folk-pop nostalgia. Described by herself as a ‘catchy toxic love

Tonight I was heading down to the delightful Kazimier Stockroom venue, located inside the even more delightful Kazimier Gardens. Taking my ears and eyes down to check out Shipwrecker perform songs from their recently released second EP “Elevator Sessions II” with support coming from The Jupiter Blues. Shipwrecker have a lovely story about a few friends jamming, then recording and finding a lead singer at the last minute so they could perform a ‘one off gig’ to showcase their sounds. Isn’t it great that music can still do that? Brilliant. Also, mention to an old bastard music geek like me

Now whilst I love watching live music, it’s always good to get out and see something different. Rather than watching people baring their souls across a stage by way of hitting instruments really hard (or soft), tonight would be filled with aquatic indulgence. It’s Blue Planet Live II So on this mild Tuesday night I headed down to the M&S Bank Arena (everyone will still call it the Echo arena, forever) to witness the BAFTA award-winning BBC One television series on a 200 square metre 4K Ultra HD LED screen. Wow. Somehow I had hustled a front floor seat, central to

Indie-pop four piece Spinn have been steadily growing their reputation as Liverpool’s next big act over the last few months. With a constant trickle of single releases, including ‘Green Eyes’, ‘Bliss’ and ‘Home’, the band have followed up with another catchy hit that will surely have you singing in the shower. The single launch for Spinn’s newest release, ’Notice Me’, was marked with a line up of the young musicians in skinny jeans and floral shirts that will shape the sounds of teens’ bedrooms in 2018 and onwards. For fans, Friday 8 July was clearly a date long marked in the calendar as the Liverpool-based band had their growing

I’ve always gravitated towards a three piece band. Perhaps it’s the honest true sound you get from a three, nowhere to really hide, everyone deserves to be in their place. So when Acadian Driftwood landed on my coffee ringed desk, I did let out an audible ‘oooh’ But my expectations are naturally set high, with my ears wanting proof that my three piece theory hasn’t been years of lies, onward I went. Acadian Driftwood consists of: Bobby Johnson – guitars, vocals, John Harrison – drums, vocals and Adam Lewis – bass. ‘Rain Coming In’ is Acadian Driftwood’s newest offering and was released on the

What do you get if you combine Patti Smith’s rich tones with Kate Bush’s haunting narratives? Liverpool’s most distinctive female vocalist and poetic story teller, Katie Mac. Having successfully established herself on the Merseyside music scene last year with the release of ‘Eye to Eye’ in late October, Mac now has a new single for us to chew over, and it should not be underrated. ‘Into the Wild’ was released at the beginning of June, and follows Mac’s previous offering with the same unmistakable strong vocals. However, this time it’s clear that Mac’s song writing abilities have risen to a

The first time I listened to Paul Wilkes was late at night after one of those long days where every ten seconds presented another inconvenience which accumulated into trivial self pity. Ordinarily this mood would take me to a band like Motion City Soundtrack to hear Justin Pierre’s fast paced yet melodic exclamations all along the lines of ‘I wish I was someone else’. But that night I listened to Paul Wilkes and was immediately soothed by his calming tracks. ‘Bluebird’ had a particular resonance with me. The combination of powerful vocals and heartfelt lyrics work beautifully together to create

Hello internet. As this is my first review for Gig Pig I feel it only proper to introduce myself. My name is Justin, I am 23, and I am a rapper/singer/producer/ café assistant/music enthusiast that resides in what many people refer to as “sunny” Rhyl. I am not going to plug my own music, as that would be whorish, crass and completely and utterly shameful. Instead what I’m going to do is review a band for you. As a reviewer I feel that it is my duty to give my honest opinion so that you, the consumer, can have a

After listening to two of the first tracks by Liverpudlian quartet Go-Fiasco, I was left thinking about the futility of categorising music into genres. The self described ‘sludge-pop’ band show features of psychadelia, pop, progressive rock, classic rock and at a push, punk. The wide range of influences is more evident in ‘Meet My Mystery’ but works much more successfully in ‘Heaven’ where they are brought together in a smoother way. In fact, ‘Heaven’ is a rather perfect culmination of the afore mentioned styles of music. As a first time listener, I found myself waiting with much anticipation during

A lot has changed for our ‘Silent Sleep’ since we reviewed them last year, and it’s not just the thickness of singer Chris’ amazing beard. It appears they’re not so silent any more. Following the release of their first album, ‘Walk Me to the Sea’, which sounded like exactly the kind of thing that would boost moral on The Queen Anne’s Revenge, they’ve finally swept up another beautiful collection of songs, entitled ‘Stay The Night. Stay The Morning, Too.’. Cheeky. In that time they’ve had some incredible achievements, including performing in Australia (where they sang with one of the guys from
